Gigi de Lugo, a 4th-Generation Virgin Islander, based in Nashville since 1993, is the Lavender Trader,'s Editor-in-Chief, at the helm of this ship, Islander style. yes, her not-for-sailing sailboat, "Mermaid of The Lavender" lives on her farm outside of Nashville, TN
This magazine is a continuation of Gigi’s long-term commitment to elevating her emerging lavender farmers and helping move all their hard work and passionate dedication for growing lavender - from a dream into sustainable small farm business ventures. Lavender is a relatively new crop in the South and requires hybrid plants, unique growing conditions, and more - to thrive. The Southern humidity & weather is a challenge - so is the clay soil. Our farmers are among the pioneers of this evolution - we aren’t the first, but we are born of a common thread - during and after the pandemic - through Lavender Love.
